MEMBERSHIP OVERVIEW

There are two categories of members: 1) Individual and 2) General. Annual Dues are $150 and are valid from July 1 through June 30 of the following year.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Membership conveys significant benefits for both General Members and Affiliate Members. Please find full details below.

General Membership: $150

criteria

General members are staff or faculty at colleges or universities who are practitioners of FGLI student support.

Examples: Program directors, specialized advisers, deans, and provosts.

Criteria: Individuals employed by a college or university will be considered for individual membership if:

They are employed by a college or university that meets all the following criteria:

  1. Membership in COFHE or American Talent Initiative (ATI); OR

  2. Meets full financial need of undergraduate students (inclusive of loans); AND

    At least 10% of undergraduate student population is first-generation and/or lower-income, as defined by the institution; AND

    Has a minimum six-year graduation rate of 70%;

AND

  • One of their primary roles/responsibilities involves programming, support, and/or policy-making for first-generation and/or lower-income students.

OR

  • They supervise units/professionals who are primarily responsible for programming, support, and/or policy-making for first-generation and/or lower-income students.

Engagement:

  • Participation in Annual Conference at discounted general member rate.

  • Participation in virtual professional development monthly events free of charge.

  • Participation in other professional development events at discounted general member rate.

  • Eligibility to attend the Annual Colloquium free of charge.

  • Eligibility to serve on the Annual Conference Planning Committee.

  • Eligibility to bid to host the Annual Colloquium and/or the Annual Conference.

Communications:

  • Receive regular email newsletters and opportunities from the FGLI Consortium.

  • Participate in FGLI Consortium social media groups, where members can seek information and informal support.

  • Can request to share information out to the FGLI Consortium email list (e.g., job postings).


Affiliate Membership: $150

criterIa

Affiliate members are higher education and/or policy professionals who value and stand in solidarity with the work of FGLI student support at colleges and universities. Affiliate members also include administrators working at institutions that don’t meet the general membership criteria. 

Examples: Financial aid officers, residential life professionals, high school college counselors, and college access counselors.

Criteria: Individuals who are higher education and or policy professionals will be considered for affiliate membership if:

They are employed by a college or university that meets the following criteria:

  1. Membership in COFHE or American Talent Initiative (ATI); OR

  2. Meets full financial need of undergraduate students (inclusive of loans); AND

    At least 10% of undergraduate student population is first-generation and/or lower-income, as defined by the institution; AND

    Has a minimum six-year graduation rate of 70%.

AND

  • They make policy, curricular, or programming decisions that directly impact the first-generation and/or lower-income population of students.

OR

They work for a community-based organization, non-profit, or for-profit whose primary purpose is aligned with supporting first-generation, lower-income students in preparing for, matriculating to, and graduating from highly selective colleges and universities.
